“Daughter of Chinghis Khan”, which won 3rd place in the LensCulture Portrait Awards 2025, is featured today in The Guardian.
It’s always a quiet joy to see something so personal travel beyond its original frame and meet new viewers along the way.
We’re not exactly at the top of the page — but we’re right at the start, if you’re willing to scroll a little.
This portrait is part of a long-term project that documents our daughter’s growth from birth to adulthood. We began it when she was born and completed it when she turned 18. Our goal was to follow the gradual changes a person undergoes over time—physically, emotionally, and in their attitude toward being photographed.
As we used studio cameras, each session required stillness and patience. The process was slow and structured, which influenced not only the visual result, but also our experience of working together. Throughout the years, the project became more than just a documentation. It was also a way for us to maintain communication, develop mutual understanding, and practice patience, both as parents and as artists.
